Terms of Use

By using Beacon, you agree to these terms. Please read them. They are written in plain English and there are no surprises.

Important: Beacon is an organisational tool, not a financial adviser. Nothing in Beacon, whether information, summaries, suggestions or AI-generated content, constitutes financial advice. Always consult a qualified, regulated financial adviser before making financial decisions.

What Beacon is

Beacon is a private, secure tool that helps families organise their financial and legal documents, including policies, pensions, wills, investments and related records, in one place.

Beacon is currently in private early access and is available by invitation only. Access is granted at our discretion and may be withdrawn at any time.

What Beacon is not

  • Beacon is not a regulated financial adviser and is not authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
  • Beacon does not provide investment, insurance, pension, legal, or tax advice.
  • Any AI-generated summaries, analysis, or suggestions within Beacon are for organisational reference only and should not be relied upon as advice.
  • Beacon is not a substitute for professional financial or legal guidance.

Your account

You must be 18 or over to use Beacon.

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity that occurs under your account. Never share your password with anyone, not even family. If you want someone to see your records, use the sharing feature described below, which gives them their own login and lets you control exactly what they can see.

We recommend turning on two-factor authentication in your account settings. You must not use Beacon for any unlawful purpose.

You can delete your account at any time from your account settings. Deletion is immediate and permanent. Your records, uploaded files and login are removed and cannot be recovered.

Your data

The information you add to Beacon belongs to you. We do not sell it, share it without your permission, or use it for any purpose other than providing the service.

For full details of how we handle your data, see our Privacy Policy.

Sharing access with others

Beacon lets you give another person read-only sight of your account. If you use this feature:

  • You decide who to invite and what they can see. You can change those settings or revoke access at any time, and it takes effect immediately.
  • You are responsible for who you invite. Satisfy yourself that the email address is correct and that you trust the person before sending an invitation.
  • A viewer can see the records you have chosen to make visible. They cannot edit or delete anything, cannot see your uploaded documents, and cannot invite anyone else.
  • If you are viewing someone else's account, you must treat what you see as confidential and use it only for the purpose they intended. You must not copy, share or use their information for anything else.

Granting someone access does not give them any legal authority over your affairs. Beacon is a record-keeping tool. It is not a power of attorney, an executorship, or any form of legal appointment.

Documents you upload

You may upload documents such as policy schedules and statements. By uploading, you confirm you have the right to do so.

Where you use the scanning feature, the contents of that document are sent to our AI provider so key details can be extracted for you. Extraction is automated and may be wrong or incomplete, so always check the details before saving, and see “Accuracy of information” below.

Please do not upload documents containing other people's personal information unless you have their permission or a proper reason to hold it.

Accuracy of information

You are responsible for ensuring that the information you enter into Beacon is accurate and up to date. Beacon displays what you tell it. We cannot verify the details of your policies, pensions, or other documents.

Do not rely on Beacon as the sole record of critical information. Keep original documents safe.

Availability

We aim to keep Beacon available at all times but cannot guarantee uninterrupted access. We may carry out maintenance, updates, or make changes to the service. We will try to give notice of any significant downtime.

During the early access period, the service may be updated frequently and features may change.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Beacon is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any loss, financial or otherwise, arising from your use of Beacon or reliance on information within it.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded.

Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer under UK law, including under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email. Continued use of Beacon after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
